Meet, John, our handsome buck! You'll see him on our walls, around town on marketing materials, and on social media.

We embraced the name “John” because it’s a classic name with deep roots in our area’s history.

The Town of Johnsburg itself was named after John Thurman, an early settler and entrepreneur who played a pivotal role in developing the region in the late 18th century. Additionally, John Richards, another prominent figure, served as the first town supervisor and was instrumental in the town’s early governance. And let’s not forget John Reed, whose tannery in North Creek was a key part of the local economy during the height of the Adirondack timber and leather industries.

On a personal note, the name “John” holds special meaning for us, as there are several Johns in the owner’s family. This connection makes the name feel like a natural fit for our mascot, symbolizing both our personal ties and the rich heritage of the Adirondacks.
